Oregon Senior Games Canceled for Summer 2020

The Oregon Senior Games, hosted by Visit Corvallis, originally scheduled for August 2020, has been cancelled for reasons related to COVID-19. The event was estimated to bring over 500 athletes to the Corvallis area to compete in various events for a chance to qualify for the National Senior Games, a biennial event that brings together the top master’s league athletes from across the country.

The recent announcement from the Governor to allow for Phase 1 reopening in Oregon will only tentatively allow for local groups of up to 25 with no travel. With so much unknown about when we will be able to fully reopen the state and allow people to travel and gather in larger groups, Visit Corvallis has decided to cancel the Oregon Senior Games for 2020. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of senior athletes and the many volunteers and officials who are crucial to the operation of the games.

The 2020 state games are the qualifier for the 2021 National Senior Games. NSGA has a new qualification process to account for the cancellation of specific sports/events at the 2020 state games. Information on the new qualification for Oregon Senior Games athletes for the 2021 National Senior Games can be found at OregonSeniorGames.com, Facebook.com/OregonSeniorGames, and will be released by NSGA in their May newsletter and posted to their website NSGA.com.

Visit Corvallis plans to hold the games in 2021. For any questions or to be added to the contact list, please email morgan@visitcorvallis.com. Future updates can also be found at OregonSeniorGames.com and Facebook.com/OregonSeniorGames.
